A Preview: Wigflex City Festival 2020

In 2019 Wigflex expanded their long running Nottingham based party to a citywide festival taking place at fifteen venues around the city. The concept of Wigflex is simple, booking high-quality DJs such as regulars Craig Richards and Call Super alongside special Nottingham talent such as Hizatron and Lukas Wigflex himself. This winning formula led to Wigflex celebrating their 13th birthday at Halloween with a killer lineup that included Rrose (live), and Ben UFO B2B Batu. Tidy.

This year’s festival sees Wigflex once again book a quality and diverse line-up of artists. Here are a few acts that we are most looking forward to:

Desert Sound Colony

Desert Sound Colony has been gone from strength to strength; running one of our favourite labels in Holding Hands and producing an extensive back catalogue of his own, filled with wonky tracks of an astounding high quality. On top of all this, he is a wizard behind the decks who is certain to get the crowd going!

Josey Rebelle

We are yet to be disappointed by a Josey Rebelle set. Whether it be playing the set of the night at Hessle’s Bussey Building Birthday extravaganza, or stealing the show when we saw her at Farr Festival. With such a broad music taste you never know what she will play next, making her a must see at Wigflex City.

Octo Octa

Octo Octa spent much of 2019 playing back-to-back at the likes of Unsound, Bassiani and De School with Eris Drew for their T4T LUV NRG tour. We caught her and Drew in Sydney for what turned out to be an amazing night filled with plenty energy, breaks and groove. Although playing solo on this occasion we expect more of the same.

Sherelle

Sherelle is a DJ who had an amazing 2019 with the release of two Boiler Rooms, her Keep Hush shows and appearances at the likes of REEF, Horst and Concrete. We have been wanting to catch for a while, and look forward to what she brings.

Yazmin Lacey – DJ Set

When first invited to a Wigflex event by the man himself, Yazmin Lacey told him, “I wasn’t really into that kind of music”, but was instantly converted and is now a regular having had “some of the best times” at Wigflex. We caught Yazmin at Omeara, London last week and her singular voice absolutely blew us away. We are really intrigued to see what she brings to a DJ set.

This is only a fraction of the talent at Wigflex City this year, and we are certain we will find it tough to see everyone we would like to with the likes of GiGi FM, Giant Swan and Instra:mental also finding their way onto the roster – we cannot wait!
