New releases from Objekt have become a rare occurrence over recent years. A disappointing fact that also leads to greater appreciation. Knowing you are guaranteed attention to detail and execution, second to none, make the wait worth it each time. This mix for Dekmantel, and his latest tracks, Objekt #004 reinforce and justify his quality over quantity approach, as both are up there with the best releases of the year so far.
Through a 38 track, hour and a half mix, TJ Hertz is able to take the listener on a journey through techno, jungle, dubstep and IDM with seamless ease. After being eased into the mix, it picks up with the Matthew Herbert – Megaphone (a remix of Jamie Lidell’s Come Back Around performance on KEXP) transitioning into his own, Theme From Q. It then segues into tracks, strange and stunning in equal measure including, unreleased Simo Cell and dBridge – Cos My Love Is. The mix is ended on a beautiful high with the spacey vocals of Shackleton vs Kasai Allstars – Mukuba Special being mixed into the dreamy synths of Stasis – Point Of No Return.
The mix could be described as a synopsis of a night. Hertz eases the listener in, ramps up the intensity, and ends in the strange dreamy feeling of the early hours, in a more convoluted way than described above, as he keeps the listener on their toes throughout. This is easily my favourite mix of the year so far, further building excitement for what is likely to be one of the best sets of Dekmantel Selectors 2017.
