Many of 2018’s standout mixes have come from the star-studded Dekmantel Podcast Series. The latest, and in my opinion the best to date, comes from the legendary mid-west promoter and DJ, DVS1.
Recorded in an “undisclosed location” in September 2017 (most likely Panorama Bar), DVS1, aka Zak Khutoretsky, showcases the depth of his record collection. As he also did at Farr Festival, DVS1 switches from the techno sound, for which he is most known, to a diverse selection of house records.
Assuming this excerpt was taken from his set between 21:00 h – 01:00 h at Panorama Bar on September 23rd 2017 (a Klubnacht curated by Marcel Dettmann), DVS1 acts as the perfect warm-up of Avalon Emerson as he effortlessly keeps the same pace and intensity that he would in his usual guise, taking little time to get into the flow of things.
He then moves through deep house, acid house and vocal tracks with ease, with his distinctively fluid mixing style, seemlessly cutting, chopping and blending. It is fair to see why he is unanimously seen as one of the most technically gifted DJs in the scene.
It is rare for DVS1 to share a live recording or mix, but never for it to be a disappointing affair. With this addition to the Dekmantel Podcast Series, he has produced something that is becoming increasingly difficult and rare: an online mix that holds its value and can be relistened to on a regular basis.
