Charlie Bones, in a similar vane to Gilles Peterson is a true fan of music. Playing just about anything, and hosting some of the biggest names on the scene, his sense of humour is perfect for the morning hours during a long work day. Highlight guests on his show have included Theo Parrish, Suzanne Kraft, DJ Okapi, playing great music while debating current affairs in a light-hearted manner with them all.
With 2016 finally, and thankfully over I spent a lot of time choosing a mix which fully represented and honoured it. In the end it only seemed right to honour one of the many great artists that passed away last year, and one that contributed so much to music and electronic music in particular. Of course, this mix was by contrast a lot more mellow. Charlie builds up the tempo slowly from Prince’s deeper songs to his party anthems at the end. He then fittingly chooses between two classics for the closer.
There is no need to name individual tracks in this review. All are special and unique in their own way, showcasing what a special talent Prince was. RIP to the other greats that passed away this year and take a listen to the JD Twitch – Bowie Tribute as well the Steph Rod – Colonel Abrams Tribute to re-listen to/discover some great music.
