Releasing a steady stream of eclecticism for over five years on labels close to home in South London, namely 22a Records and Rhythm Section International, to his collaboration with Berlin-based Odd Socks Records, Henry Wu has cemented himself as a protagonist in the ascendency of creativity and jazz in electronic music.
‘Salaam’, the first track from his most recent project, ‘The Return’, an album to be released under the alias of Kamaal Williams, demonstrates Wu’s intelligence as an experienced and mature producer, and will be released on May 25th 2018.
Wu’s monthly residency at NTS helps give an insight into the inner workings of one of the UK’s most highly respected young producers. During this particular episode, Wu draws attention to the west coast of the USA with tracks from Flying Lotus, Ras G, Samiyam and Gonjasufi. Our personal highlight was the inclusion of fellow Londoner Funkineven’s ‘Mad Swing’ from the album ‘Kleer’, now nearing a decade old. This track has certainly stood the test of time.
