Preview: Laksa & Peach

Mantissa returns for the second time in 2018, this time in the intimate surroundings of Stokey’s Bar-A-Bar. Reputed for it’s progressive approach to bookings and in-house sound, the venue sets the perfect stage for the eclectic line up Mantissa has prepared: ever looking to expand on London’s sonic landscape.
For the first time, Tom and James welcome the mercurial rising talent of Peach (CAN). Starting 2018 with a bang, following the release of ‘Silky’ on Midland’s newly formed Intergraded label alongside a series of warmly received NTS mixes, this energetic artist’s selections will be sure to cut through the late winter chills. ‘Silky’ effortlessly fuses soulful and atmospheric tones with the kind of energy that has come to define her sound. Expect nothing short of dynamism as Peach builds on an already impressive year. Listen to her at work here.

Another Mantissa debut, Laksa (UK), whose release on Batu’s Bristol based label Timedance made waves in 2016, provides an added layer of nuance to the bill. What followed last year was a broader, more mutable record under the Zenker Brothers’ Illiantape. His gritty, bass-heavy yet ethereal records, in keeping with a UK-flavoured-techno-sound promises to provide the night with an authentic aura of appropriate time and place, as we venture further into the early hours of Saturday in N16.

To kick things off, Mantissa boys Tom Allman and Jambo (b2b) are set to stitch together sounds from across the electronic spectrum, in keeping with the aesthetic Mantissa has crafted throughout 2016 and 2017. As they lock in and lay the foundations for the night ahead, these two deft selectors are guaranteed to excite, engage and surprise. Endeavouring to showcase artists across the UK and beyond, in line with their philosophy of providing an unbound, open platform for creativity, a whole host of guest mixes are listenable here.
Roll on Stoke Newington.
