Tune of the Week: Black Sabbath – Planet Caravan

[Above image credit: Golden Scissors]

Planet Caravan is one of those pieces of music that just takes your full attention. Gently the band rolls in – the guitar accompaniment slowly starts off with the bongos and bass joining soon after. The vocals put you in a trance. The high pitch and engineered vibrato whimsically glide from one word to another. The trippy lyrics sound like they belong to this sound in the two verses that are heard. After which, the vocals take a backseat. This creates room for a guitar solo to lead the piece to its finale, in a style that I can only describe as a cross between folk and blues, to softly fade the song away; seemingly like the music is just passing you by, onward on its journey to nowhere.
