Tune of the Week: Orbital – Belfast

Orbital’s debut self-titled album, released in 1991, came about in a time viewed by some as the golden age for electronic music. It is a wonderful album full of brilliant tracks and is a must listen for anyone.
The penultimate track on the album, Belfast, is truly a beautiful track – with striking and reflective electronic phasing evident throughout the track. The major-chord keys surround a sublime choral sample from Hildegard von Bingen’s ‘O Euchari’ and has been a soundtrack to the end of countless weekends. It sits between being a joyous beauty and powerful melancholy, and as it slows in tempo during its last two minutes you can feel yourself slipping off into a weightless drift.
