Tune of the Week: Peverelist & Kowton – Raw Code

Pev and Kowton’s raw code is a great example of the highly consistent dance music coming out of Bristol, especially their label that they co-founded with Asusu. However, this release was on Hessle Audio and “Raw Code” typifies the city’s sound.
Bright synths open the piece followed by heavy syncopate drum work, leading to a killer fat bassline. The synths return but this time the bassline is fuller, louder and may incite a screw face or two.
The stylistic drum patterns displayed in this track, and in much of the music from the aforementioned labels and the relatively new Timedance, show the progression of UK techno in recent years into an exciting and flourishing scene.
