Tune of the Week: Yukihiro Takahashi – Extraordinary

As a core member of Japanese musical group Yellow Magic Orchestra, Yukihiro Takahashi has been at the heart of some of the most influential records to grace electronic music. Their willingness to experiment with new sounds and technology allowed them to stand out and lay the groundworks for a host of far reaching styles under the electronic music umbrella. Many of these elements can be found in Extraordinary; a bouncy synthpop jam that sees Takahashi at his most seductive.
It is Takahashi’s idiosyncratic crooning vocals that define this track, balancing perfectly with the obscure funky synthwork synonymous with YMO. Despite its release back in 1981, the promiscuous grooves of Extraordinary would still have as much impact on the dancefloor in the present day. A fun and energetic track sure to revitalise even the weariest dancers at the end of the night.
